The Elizabeth Bishop l.p. (recordings from Sep 2007 – May 2008)
My first real album. I don't consider the first album to be real. Well, I do, but this is the first one I'm not embarrassed by. At least not mostly.
Also, by accident or not, it was because of this album I have stuck with the thirteen track rule. I had done thirteen tracks on the first album and composed both fist and quebecois the same evening. I was going to release them as part of the first album, then noticed how much better they are than anything on that album. I also realized that thirteen is my magical number and to always end albums after coming up with thirteen compositions.
The title is an homage to the great poet Elizabeth Bishop, and also to the great early 90s indie rock band Unrest, who released a record called The Isobel Bishop EP. After reading Elizabeth Bishop in a lit crit class (the only thing I didn't hate that class) I thought that one day I'd release an album called The Elizabeth Bishop LP. Mainly because I kept calling her Isobel Bishop in class. I didn't realize that would happen so soon.
