Things you should know

Attention Safari users. You most likely will need to download these songs using the option-click command (for Mac users that is. Not sure about Windows users). For some sad reason, Apple has decided that Safari should override the wishes of my .htaccess file and open mp3 files in the current browser window instead of downloading them. This is a sad development, but easily corrected.

A clarification about the name. There is no "The" in front of the band's name. And there is no apostrophe in the band's name either. We (and by we I mean Ratan and all of the voices in his head) are a band made of rural citizens, we do not belong to the citizens of any rural community.

I'm looking for women interested in performing spoken word pieces over my compositions. Interested female vocalists inquire within.

Rural Citizens Band Discography

For those who don't know where to start, the compositions I'm most proud of are fist, ode II, cell, gulf and shapes. A lot of the first album is kind of a wash, but even it has some pieces I'm proud of, they're just a bit rough compared to later compositions.

For a while now I've wanted to write music. I'm not sure why. For some reason it wasn't enough to just listen, I had to be involved. I never really wanted to join a band. Too much ego. While I guess I could do it on my own, playing punk and the like just isn't in the cards. One day I opened up GarageBand and started to play around with different sounds, and the rest is history.

Some songs contain samples of field recordings I've used from thefreesoundproject and sound transit. These sites are great resources for "Sound additives", and all sounds are free for non-commercial use. As are my songs.

Titles are mostly meaningless, except I hope fans of 90s indie rock will get the Unrest reference in The Elizabeth Bishop LP title, as well as know the work of Ms. Elizabeth Bishop.

I am releasing these recordings under the loosest Creative Commons license available. You're free to post these files on P2P, usenet, your homepage, etc. All that I ask is that you credit me  (with the name Rural Citizens Band), and leave the ID3 tags as is. Please do not change them in any way, as this is a major way I credit myself for the work. Otherwise, spread them around like the clap in an Australian whore house!
